Instructors

Mestre Jordan began Capoeira in 1978.
His teacher, mentor and friend of all these years is Mestre Accordeon (Ubirajara Almeida) an internationally recognized leader in the capoeira world and student (1950’s) of Manuel do Reis Machado, Mestre Bimba.

In addition to living and training in Salvador Bahia in the late 70’s and early 80’s (with Mestres’ Bando, Vermelho Boxer, Joao Pequeno, Itapoan), Jordan has been teaching continuously since 1982 with an emphasis on youth and young adults..

Mestre Calango began training Capoeira music and movements at 7 years old in his native town in the state of Piaui in the Northeast of Brazil.
He received his formatura in the US under Mestre Acordeon in the late ‘90s and title of Mestre in the early 2000’s, but has been teaching since he was 18 years old.
He has been featured in workshops, shows, and films throughout the world. Mestre Calango has taught in Chicago, Colorado, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Brazil and has been teaching in the Bay Area on and off since 2002.
Our Philosophy

Mestre Jordan and Mestre Calango have been teaching together for over 15 years and have been friends for 30 years. Together, they emphasize respect for the history, music, context, and philosophy of the art form and the African Brazilian people who created capoeira as well as the practical dimensions of self defense, joy and physical capacity inherent in the art. Both Jordan and Tiao (Mestre Calanago) are elder mestre's within the United Capoeira Association, founded by Mestre Acordeon in 1991. Classes are kept small so that we can provide individual attention to every student while at the same time we are committed to connecting students to a healthy Bay Area and growing world wide capoeira community.
